Holiday Destination Weddings

I apologize for not posting more frequently lately, the holidays have kept me busy...

Now that Christmas is passed and New Years just a few days away I will try to be better about posting.

It seems the perfect time to blog about having a destination wedding during a holiday celebration.  Note when I refer to the holidays in this post, I am writing about anytime that a number of people are given the day off to celebrate or school vacations, whether it is Presidents Day or Christmas or any of the other lovely holidays we take time to celebrate.

Holidays at first seem to be the perfect time to celebrate your love for one another with all of those nearest and dearest.   That is true but you should be realistic in your decision to get married during a holiday.

Travel is a supply and demand orineted business so when there are more people who want to get away the higher the price and the more difficult it can be to get to your destination.

Some holidays resorts impose a minimum number of nights for guests to book at their property, this may make it difficult or impossible for some to join you who would have come if they could stay for just a few nights and not an entire week.

Many have the same idea to maximize time off and utilize a holiday for their wedding, with the ever growing popularity of destination weddings this may mean it is more difficult to secure a wedding in the location of your choice during those times.

You will have to endure more airport delays and a greater chance of lost luggage.

If shipping items to your destination for your wedding there will be more packages being shipped and you run the risk of your items being delayed or worse in customs.  I did a wedding in Tulum some years ago the bride had a lot of children coming as guests over Easter weekend so lovingly a personalize Easter basket was shipped to the resort, not one ever made it and to this day we do not know what happened to the Easter Baskets.

You may also need to contract with vendors earlier and pay a premium if you decide to be married during a busy time.

My best suggestion  would be to really look within yourselves and see if you think the holidays are a good match for you and your guests.

There are many wonderful ways you can incorporate the holiday into your destination wedding.   I am going to post for the next few days some ideas for various holidays and destination weddings.

If you do decide to get married during the holidays plan early and you will have a lovely wedding.
